A: it is made of metal. The BASE is made of Iron, and it ONLY weights around 4.2lb, and the whole tool weights 9lb.

Q:What is maximum thickness it can drill?

A:The maximum thickness that you can fit into the drill press will depend on the drill you are using and the length of the drill bit. In a case, the maximum thickness I can fit under the drill bit is about 5 inches. Here’s some rough measurements that may help. The maximum distance from the base to the bottom of the drill clamp is about 10.5 inches. The maximum vertical travel of the mechanism holding the drill is about 3 inches. And the maximum distance from the axis of the drill bit to the vertical support is about 4 inches. So you can drill a hole to a maximum depth of about 3 inches, a maximum 4 inches from the edge.
