The resin used to make bio-plastics is typically sourced from sugar crops grown outside the U.S. (usually South America). Crops grown for this purpose are at the expense of crops that could be used for food production. Facor in transportation costs, the carbon footprint of bioplastics is worse than using recycled plastics!
